Week 5: Happy Frostlight!
"...I think everyone could use a reminder that even the darkest shadows can turn into something bright."
The sound of a crackling fireplace filled the cozy room as Felix gazed up at his fathers, Hart and Jolly, his wide eyes glowing with wonder. Jolly gently closed the large, ornate storybook on his lap, its cover glittering with golden swirls and candy cane borders.
“And that,” Jolly said with a warm smile, “is how Felix saved the town of Happy Days and reminded everyone of the true joy of the holidays.”
"I did it? I saved everyone?" Felix leaned forward with wide eyes.
Hart chuckled, leaning forward to tousle Felix’s hair. “Of course. Who else could have saved a whole town with nothing but some lights, candy canes, and a big heart?”
Felix sat up, his eyes darting to the coffee table in front of them. On it sat the gingerbread town they had built together just last week. Each little house sparkled with frosting and gumdrops, and right in the middle of the display stood a tiny square with a gingerbread tree covered in colorful icing lights. His admiration of their creation was cut short, however, when there was some sort of noise coming from the front door. Eagerly, Felix hopped to his feet. "I'll go see what it is!"
Neither parent could stop him. He skirted up to the front door and swung it open, only to be taken aback as a tiny black creature rushed up to him, barking happily and weaving around Felix's legs. Felix gasped, crouching down and picking up the tiny creature.
"You're just like... the little monster from the stories." He murmured.
"Huh." Hart approached him from behind, looking at the monster thoughtfully. "Maybe that story was more real that we thought."
"Can we keep him? Pleaaaaase?" Felix spun around and held up the cheerful creature to Hart's face.
"Well..."
"Oh, come on." Jolly snickered, nudging Hart as he walked up to them. "Of course we can, kiddo. You practically created him, after all."
